There is so much to explore in Crete from its beautiful seashores to its mountain villages. This vast island is best explored by car to really appreciate all it has to offer. The scenery is truly breath-taking with a sun worshippers paradise located in the north; there are beaches a plenty. However travel by hire car to the south and you will be able to explore the rugged coves and cliff lined coast. 

Travelling Around Crete:
It is advisable to stick to the main highways when travelling around the island, away from these some of the roads can be narrow and winding. Due to the large size of Crete a map is recommended. The main highways are however well signposted, but it is in the more remote areas that you will need to take care. 

Eating out in Crete:
Food is a way of life in Crete. You will find rural tavernas producing local goods such as their own meat, cheese, olive oil and wine. Seafood is also fresh and plentiful. Whilst driving through the villages you will discover herbs and greens and house-hold traditional recipes. Something to try, but not for the faint hearted, is a shot of the renowned ‘raki’.
