About Piraeus:
Piraeus is a port city located in the area of Attica, within the Athens urban district. It is 12 kilometres southwest from the centre of Athens and easily accessible from the airport using your rental car. Piraeus has been the port of Athens since ancient times and is a major employer as well as being the base for Greece’s large merchant navy. 

Travelling Around Athens from Piraeus Port:
Travelling around Piraeus is accessible by rental car. The main A1/E75 will take you from the port of Piraeus, to the centre of Athens in around an hour. It is also possible to head towards Greece’s second largest city, Thesssaloniki. You will find driving around Athens’ central area an attractive way of seeing the city due to its good motorway network (A6).

Piraeus has a range of dining experiences suitable for all budgets, from traditional Greek, to fantastic seafood and top wines. The waterfront views from many of the restaurants make for a pleasant evening’s meal.  

Staying in Piraeus:
Many visitors head straight to Athens after arriving in Piraeus, however there are pretty and interesting areas. The attractive quarter around Zea Maina and the Mikrolimano harbour are popular areas with tourists. Here you will find restaurants, bars and quaint cafes. The area consists of a number of shopping strips, in addition to the expected shipping offices and public buildings.
